Barton biography

Barton in the classroom

The most comprehensive biography of Australia's first Prime Minister will be distributed to every secondary school in the country this year for the Centenary of Federation. Emeritus Professor Geoffrey Bolton's new book, Edmund Barton-The One Man for the Job, will be made available to schools through a special grant from the National Council for the Centenary of Federation.

According to Minister for the Centenary of Federation, Peter McGauran, 'When early research showed that most people were unable to name Edmund Barton as Australia's first Prime Minister, the National Council decided to base an awareness campaign around this lack of knowledge of the nation's history'. 'By funding the distribution of Geoffrey Bolton's highly acclaimed book, the National Council hopes to encourage future generations of Australians to take more of an interest in the nation's development.' he said.
