% of households with more than one telephone line
The presence of an additional phone line in the home provides for flexibility of communications, particularly in relation to accessing the Internet from home. Of the 14 countries benchmarked, Australia was ranked 6th, with an estimated 11 per cent of households with a fixed phone line having two or more lines into the home. The US (29%), Taiwan (25%) and Norway (20%) were the top performers with approximately twice the proportion of households having two or more fixed phone lines than Australia. Other countries marginally leading Australia included Singapore (14%) and Hong Kong (13%).
