Average number of Internet sessions and hours online per month
South Korea performs well in terms of rates of access and use of the Internet. For the two "intensity indicators" average number of Internet sessions per month and average time spent online per month, South Korea was ranked 1st out of the 14 countries benchmarked. At July 2001, South Koreans online averaged 26 sessions per month and 19 hours and 2 minutes online per month - perhaps a reflection of the near ubiquitous take up of broadband access by Koreans online at home. Australia was ranked 9th and 7th respectively, averaging 13 sessions and 6 hours and 55 minutes online for July 2001. Other countries recording more intensive levels of Internet use for both indicators for the month of July included the US (20, 10.34), Hong Kong (19, 11.1), Germany (17, 8.04), Singapore (15, 8.42), and Taiwan (13, 8.0)
Aggregate points for each country were derived by adding the separate scores reported against each of the intensity indicators.
