E-business readiness rankings

In 2001 the US-based Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) published its second set of "E-business Readiness Rankings" for over 60 countries. Countries were ranked on the basis of their overall e-business environment, e.g. how conducive were conditions in these countries to the development and fostering of e-business opportunities. Overall Australia was placed 2nd with a score of 8.29 compared to the US, ranked 1st, with a score of 8.73. Italy with a score of 6.74 was the lowest ranked country out of the 14 countries benchmarked in this report. As the EIU scores were given out of a maximum score of 10, for the purpose of measuring this indicator these scores have been multiplied by 10 and thus converted to a 100-point scale, which is consistent with the scores of other indicators in this Index. Accordingly, the US scored 87 points, followed by Australia (83), and the UK and Norway (81 points each). Italy received the lowest score (67).
