Number of persons 16 years and over with Internet Access per ISP
While only accounting for a very small fraction of businesses, Internet service providers (ISPs) are the backbone of the Internet service industry, providing critical linkages to the Internet and ongoing client support. The chart below shows that Australia is well served in terms of the number of persons with Internet access per ISP. Against this indicator Australia was ranked 1st with an estimated 15,000 persons 16 years and over with Internet access per ISP. Since 1995 the number of ISPs in Australia has increased by nearly 3000% in response to the dramatic rise in demand for Internet access by the general public and the broader business community. The US was ranked second with an estimated 20,383 persons 16 years and over with Internet access per ISP. South Korea had the highest ratio of persons with access per ISP, an estimated 2.1 million per ISP.
