Excellence in arts management recognised
It's pleasing to know that the contribution of Australia 's arts community is highly valued by our society and that many individuals and industry organisations are committed to encouraging the pursuit of excellence in the sector. One such organisation, the Australian Institute of Arts Management (AIAM), is the peak national body representing arts managers in Australia.
Established in 1989,AIAM has members from all states and territories of Australia as well as New Zealand, and from all art forms. It informs members of issues and trends in arts management and promotes the profession. Members of the Board of the AIAM come from both the performing and visual arts and every effort is made to have each state involved.
AIAM's mission is to assist the development of the arts in Australia by ensuring the equality and effectiveness of arts management. Activities focus on informing members of issues and trends in the field of arts management as well as seeking to enhance the status of the profession and recognising the achievements of arts managers.
The winners of the Nugget Awards for Excellence in Arts Management 2002 were announced recently at the AIAM conference in Canberra. Named after legendary Commonwealth administrator, Dr H.C. (Nugget) Coombs, the Awards are aimed at recognising and rewarding managers who help to shape the arts and who play a crucial role in how the arts are managed, promoted and marketed in Australia.
The Nugget Awards are judged in three categories:
