Australian Sports Drug Agency funding for pre-event drug testing for the M2006 Games
Why is the Government introducing this programme?
- To ensure athletes competing at the Commonwealth Games are subject to pre-event drug testing.
- This will help to deter doping at the M2006 Games.
Who benefits from this change?
- M2006 Organising Committee, athletes, coaches, officials, the sporting community and the general public.
What impact will this funding have on the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games?
- It scrutinises athletes regardless of world rankings in order to provide a level playing field across all sports.
- It educates and introduces athletes to world standard testing they may not have encountered in the past and prepares them for international competition standards.
- It will enable ASDA to provide pre-event drug testing where the M2006 Organising Committee is unable to do so.
- It will complement the M2006 Games in-competition drug testing programme.
