Case Studies

Below is a series of case studies of ITOL funded projects.  The case studies aim to disseminate valuable learning experiences gained from undertaking collaborative e-business projects.

  • Collaborative B2B for SMEs in the Mining Industry
The project developed a solution to enable SMEs to trade electronically with larger, e-business enabled trading partners, as well as trading partners with no e-business capability.  The project delivered two products, TradeRoute ™, a B2B middleware solution for SMEs and TradeForms ™, an advanced Webservices based solution to electronic trade with trading partners who previously used manual methods such as fax, email and post.  The program has expanded from the mining industry to service the oil and gas industries and companies in the consumer goods market.
  • This link sends you to DCITA's Archive websiteThe Anomalous Behaviour Detection System
This project aims to enhance the security of e-business transactions by developing a prototype of an anomalous behaviour detection system. The system is designed to detect and contain abnormal behaviour in an online banking environment. Once security protocols have been breached, the system will profile and monitor transactions to track and limit intrusion by unauthorised users.
  • The Beef Industry Genetics Website - The project sought to provide internet delivery of modern breeding methods through the collaboration of a number of educational institutions and peak industry bodies representing beef producers.
  • Flinders Ranges Online Reservations - The project focused on the tourism accommodation industry by the Flinders Ranges and enabled operators to have their computerised reservation system sit behind their web site allowing customers to book and pay for accommodation and/or tours over the internet in a secure manner and receive immediate confirmation.  With the advent of the internet, customers can now transact with businesses twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  International customers in different time zones can now do business with Australian business round the clock.
  • Smart Patient Data - The Smart Patient Data is a simple, user friendly and secure system that uses Public Key Infrastructure and secure tokens to access records and share patient summaries over the Internet.  It provides a means of increasing productivity while reducing operational and administratives costs.
  • PAYbySNAP for Micro-Payments - PAYbySNAP introduces a new paradigm for enabling electronic financial transactions.  It is a web hosted payments service for both businesses and consumers that facilitates financial transactions and maintains transaction records within a secure environment.
  • Tasmania Logistics Online - This project demonstrated the commercial benefits available to logistics and transport providers, as well as their customers, when they migrate from paper-based workflows to an automated operation.  A key feature of the initiative was the creation of a central technology hub for the Tasmania's transport and logistics providers to show how an automated and electronic operations system would boost business efficiency, increase savings, improve customer relations and maximise profits.
  • AFTA WebMAIL - The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) WebMAIL provides travel and tourism industry suppliers with an Internet-based communication link to the Australian travel agency community, while reducing the "information overload" situation, brought about by travel agencies being inundated with information distributed by many individual suppliers on an ad hoc basis.
