Commonwealth Technology Port
In September 1998 the Australian Government committed $22.5 million from the Federation Fund to the Victorian Government to assist the establishment of a Commonwealth Technology Port (Comtechport) at the Melbourne Docklands.
Comtechport is a high technology precinct for start-up companies, small and medium size firms and research and educational organisations.
The first building in the Comtechport precinct, the 5800 square metre Innovations building, was opened by the Prime Minister on 2 July 2004. Construction of the second, 15 000 square metre Comtechport building is under way and is due to be completed by June 2007.
