Better cultural delivery systems

The Better Cultural Delivery Systems Working Group was formed in 1992 to achieve the following:

"more effective, efficient and extensive use of nationally significant cultural product and producers; more efficient delivery systems; increased nationwide exposure for innovative material of national significance; increased opportunities for creators (directors, writers, choreographers, composers) and their peers throughout Australia; and increased access to cultural material of excellence for isolated rural communities in Australia and regions of specific need. It was decided that the Better Cultural Delivery Systems Working Group would be disbanded at the November meeting of Standing Committee 1993 as the group had achieved all objectives."

Standing Committee members contributed to an evaluative study of the five-part strategy adopted by the working group in relation to programs and initiatives of government. In receiving a consolidated final report at the 1994 meeting, Council noted outstanding issues arising would be subject of consideration by Standing Committee through a further assessment of the study, in particular covering:

  • services for the 'top end' of Australia
  • the longer-term benefits arising from the new Commonwealth programs
  • the advantages of developing a comparable presentation for programs across States, Territories and the Commonwealth.

    The priorities for the working group were as follows:

  • increased touring of nationally significant performance, exhibitions and product;
  • increased collaborative opportunities;
  • increased access to nationally significant heritage collections; and
  • allocation and/or reallocation of funds to priority projects.
