NetAlert, Australia's Internet Safety Advisory Group, is proudly supporting the Hector Protector initiative, a ‘safety button' to protect children from inappropriate Internet content.
Created by the Internet Safety Group of New Zealand, with founding sponsor Microsoft NZ, Hector is a fun, friendly and smart dolphin who provides an instant escape from inappropriate Internet content for young children.
Children stay safe by clicking on the Hector button if they see something that upsets them on the Internet. Their screen is instantly filled with a peaceful underwater scene that shields children from the inappropriate content they have come across. Hector tells children that he will keep the screen covered until they can go and get an adult to help them. The Hector dolphin button stays on the computer screen as children surf the Internet offering instant protection at the click of the button.
The Hector safety button is the first stage of the Internet Safety Group's Hector's World education initiative, designed for children between the ages of three and 10.
NetAlert was established in 1999 by the Australian Government to provide independent advice and education on managing access and use of the Internet.
Through creative ventures such as Hector Protector, NetAlert and its Internet safety international partners are working hard to ensure a safer Internet experience for young people and their families.
