A state broker position was established in each of the five mainland states and one in the Northern Territory. The Australian Government provided up to $100 000 a year for each broker. The amount was matched by the state or territory.
The state and territory based brokers worked closely with both state and local governments, helping them gain maximum advantage from their aggregated demand for broadband services.
State based brokers also advanced regional broadband initiatives and community demand aggregation projects by linking them with state government broadband strategies. This was done across sectors and within particular geographic areas.
State brokers were also a key source of knowledge and expertise to guide local organisations on broadband investment in their area, with information about technologies, infrastructure markets and other telecommnications stakeholders.
