Networking Australia's Future - Appendix E
Australian prehistory, performing arts, visual arts, key events of the Second World War and indigenous culture are the themes of the first five successful titles of the Australia on CD program, announced by Minister for Communications and the Arts, Michael Lee on 30 August 1995.
Australia on CD is a Creative Nation initiative, providing $6.9 million for 10 state-of-the-art CD ROMs on Australian cultural themes. It encourages the develop-ment of quality Australian content by linking the cultural and multimedia industries.
The successful titles are:
- Backstage Pass, a journey through the theatre and performing arts with an on-stage and behind the scenes focus-by NIDA, the University of Wollongong Interactive Multimedia Learning Laboratory, the Sydney Opera House Trust, the Australian Opera and the Australian Ballet;
- Under a Southern Sun, giving Australians a better understanding of their origins and heritage through 50 great works of Australian art-by the National Gallery of Australia, Fairfax Multimedia and Brainwaave Interactive Solutions;
- Tales from the Kangaroo's Crypt, which explores Australia's identity through a study of its human and natural prehistory-by the National Museum of Australia, the University of New South Wales, the ABC, the Riversleigh Society, and Unlimited Energee;Â¥ MOODITJ, an innovative proposal about the relationships between contemporary Australian indigenous art and indigenous cultural heritage-by the University of Western Australia Development Unit for Instructional Technology, the Aboriginal Affairs Department of Western Australia and the Western Australian Arts portfolio; and
- Australia Remembers on CD, exploring key events of World War II and including material from this year's celebrations-by Ryebuck Media from Melbourne and Interactive Multimedia from Canberra, using content from the Australian War Memorial.
Second round applications will be invited during September and the Selection Panel will be holding public forums for feedback on the first round and suggestions for the second.
