Artbank director leaves after ten years

Artbank Director Antonia Syme is leaving after more than a decade to find new challenges, the Chair of Artbank Joe Gersh announced today.

Ms Syme has made a significant contribution to the success and sustainability of Artbank, Mr Gersh said.

Under her leadership, Artbank has acquired important Australian art and supported a range of talented artists.

Ms Syme has expanded the quality, breadth and reputation of the collection during her 10 years at Artbank and the collection is now conservatively valued at $25 million.

I am very sorry to see Ms Syme leave Artbank and would like to congratulate her on her many achievements during her time at the helm, Mr Gersh said.

The Australian Government Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today paid tribute to the work of Ms Syme.

Ms Syme has led Artbank through a period of unprecedented growth with more than 100 per cent increase in Artbank lending and through a substantial increase in the level of private sector support, Senator Kemp said.

Artbank is now the greatest supporter of young and emerging artists in the country with more than $2.5 million being invested in artists over the past four years.

I wish Ms Syme every success for a bright future, Senator Kemp said.
