Review of Australian Symphony and Pit Orchestras

REVIEW OF AUSTRALIAN SYMPHONY
AND PIT ORCHESTRAS

The Chairman of the current review of Symphony and Pit Orchestras in Australia, Mr James Strong, indicated today that the Review Report would be submitted to the Australian Government early in 2005.

Mr Strong said a need for additional research and evaluation had carried the review process beyond the original target date of 31 December 2004.

Mr Strong said that the review had brought forward a range of significant matters which demonstrated a need for changes to create a new era for the orchestral sector in Australia.

He also pointed out that the timing of any public release of the report would be a matter for the Australian Government in its consideration of the recommendations and implementation issues.
